The 'Human' cost of our clothes

This music video by the band Simple Plan for their track 'This Song Saved My Life' packs a powerful punch, highlighting the realities of labour exploitation and human trafficking behind our everyday clothes. A must see! ...but don't stop there. Join the fight against human trafficking and exploitation at the EXIT campaign.
Our Clothing edition of the Shop Ethical guide will be launched this coming February.

Mining for smartphones

The Indonesian island of Bangka is being ravaged by tin mining which rivals Samsung and Apple use in their smartphones, says a new Friends of the Earth report. Over 65% of Bangka's forest and 70% of its coral reefs are damaged, and with 15 rivers now contaminated, over half of the island's population do not have access to clean water. > More. > See video here
This report came just a week after the release of the Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics 2012 which ranked both Apple and Samsung in the top ten green companies.

  Victory in John West campaign...

Greenpeace have released their updated Canned Tuna guide. This is in the light of their successful ‘Reject John West’ campaign, which after just 6 weeks, saw John West pledging to stop using destructive fishing methods that needlessly kill sharks, rays, baby tuna and turtles.
John West joins Greenseas, Safcol and Sirena in their commitment. This leaves Coles and Woolworths as the only two major companies not to have committed to sustainable fishing.
