Australia’s last tuna cannery closes
Austraia’s last tuna cannery, at Port Lincoln, will halt production because of cuts to the southern bluefin tuna quota and the high Australian dollar.
At the end of May, Port Lincoln Tuna Processors will stop producing John West canned tuna products, which will instead be made in Thailand.
This will end Australia’s long history of canning tuna with Simplot sourcing the complete product from Thailand, along with every other major brand, including Greenseas, Safcol and Sirena. [source]
