  • We have more than 3,800 products and 1,600 companies in our database
  • We send our monthly ‘Ethical Update’ e-bulletin to more than 3,000 recipients
  • We conducted over 160 ‘Shopping with a Conscience’ workshops since 2007 reaching more than 2,500 people

All of these sales and activities bring people to our website — people who are actively interested in purchasing ethical products. We keep our product information up to date, as well as information regarding number of visits to the website, and the number of clicks taking people to your website. Many individual people and not for profit groups use our website regularly as a reference.

We only accept advertisements from companies that pass our ethical screen. The Ethical Consumer Group’s screen for commercial advertising is based on the following criteria:

  • organisations that have no criticisms from our selected sources and have either
    • praises (‘tick’ rating) or
    • outstanding products with significant ethical/ sustainable features (‘outstanding product star’)
  • organisations whose products do not fall into a product type category that receives an ‘industry alert’, unless these products receive an ‘outstanding products star’ noting significant ethical/ sustainable features that address the particular concerns.
  • organisations that are not multinational
  • a focus on small organisations promoting sustainable practices and / or products
  • a focus on Australian-owned organisations

The rationale is that we focus on and promote the presence of small companies with good track records and products with positive features, rather than than the few big ones who already have marketing power.

Interpretation of this commercial screen and agreement for adverting is at the discretion of the Ethical Consumer Group.
